Original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley to headline Colonial this fall

Paul Daniel "Ace" Frehley, best known as one of the co-founders and as the lead guitarist of the rock band KISS, will perform at the Colonial Theatre this fall, the Berkshire Theatre Group announced on Friday.

Frehley is a soloist these days, which means he no longer sports his KISS makeup, and remains one of the top metal guitarists on the rock 'n' roll landscape. Frehley is touring in support of his latest record, "Origins, Vol. 1."

Tickets, at $60 apiece, for the Tuesday, Sept. 27, show are on sale now through the Berkshire Theatre Group box office and website.

"Origins" is a collection of cover songs that include Cream's "White Room," The Rolling Stones' "Street Fighting Man," and "Spanish Castle Music" by Jimi Hendrix. The disc also features several reworked KISS songs including "Cold Gin," which Frehley wrote.

Frehley co-founded KISS in 1973. The band was a hit machine for three decades. All four members were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Frehley left the band in 1987 to form Frehley's Comet.

KISS reunited in 1996 and embarked on a successful five-year run, which included appearances at the Super Bowl and Olympics.

Of the four members of KISS, Frehley remains the most successful solo member of the band. His first, self-titled solo album went platinum, the only solo album of any of the members of KISS to do so.

Opening for Frehley and his band will be the blues-rock band SIMO, a Nashville-based power trio that features guitar virtuoso JD Simo.
